How to set up Apple HomeKit seamlessly in no time

Last week in this post, I introduced you to the basics of Apple HomeKit and promised I will write something about its setup procedure in future. Well, it's the time. In this post, I am going to elaborate how to setup Apple HomeKit at your house.

    Prerequisite of using Apple HomeKit:

HomeKit is Apple’s proprietary software and hardware smart-home platform, linking several smart-home devices including lights, switches, door locks, and thermostats to each other. And after that everything can be controlled by the Home app and Siri. So here are the basic things you need to have for using Apple HomeKit-
    1. iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with iOS 10 or later version
    2. Devices labeled with “Works with Apple HomeKit”
However, if you want to control your accessories remotely, you need an Apple TV with tvOS 9.0 or later.
    After that-
    1. On your device, sign in to iCloud with your Apple ID and make sure you turn on iCloud Keychain (iCloud Keychain keeps your Safari website usernames and passwords, credit card information, and Wi-Fi network information up to date across your Apple devices) and Home to edit home users and use accessories on all your devices.
    2. To set up accessories and automation, allow Home to use your location.

How to add an accessory to Home:

    1. Open Home and tap Add Accessory or tap +.
    2. Wait for your accessory to appear, then tap it. If asked to Add Accessory to Network, tap Allow.
    3. With the camera on your iOS device, scan the eight-digit HomeKit code on the accessory or accessory documentation. Or enter the code manually.
    4. Add information about your accessory, like its name or the room it's located in. Siri will identify your accessory by the name you give it and the location it's in.
    5. To finish, tap Next, then tap Done.
Some accessories may require additional setup with the manufacturer's app.

    How to add a Room:

    1. Open Home and tap the Rooms tab.
    2. Tap the settings icon in the upper-left corner, then tap Room Settings.
    3. Tap Add Room.
    4. Give your room a name, like Living Room. To change the Room Wallpaper, tap Take Photo or Choose from Existing.
    5. To finish, tap Save.
