Microsoft Office 2010 RTM Is Ready Now:Release Date Announced

Microsoft recently announced that its anticipated Office 2010 productivity suite had released to manufacturing on April 15th, meaning that final, shipping code may be burning to discs even as we speak.
The announcement was made on the Microsoft Office 2010 Engineering blog by Takeshi Numoto, Corporate Vice President of the Office division. The announcement covers the Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Visio 2010, and Project 2010 products. The official announcement:
“I am very excited to share some great news with you. Earlier today we reached the release-to-manufacturing (RTM) milestone for Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010!

RTM is the final engineering milestone of a product release and our engineering team has poured their heart and soul into reaching this milestone. It is also an appropriate time to re-emphasize our sincere gratitude to the more than 5,000 organizations and partners who have worked with us on rapid deployment and testing of the products. Since the start of our public beta in November 2009, we’ve had more than 7.5 million people download the beta version – that’s more than 3 times the number of 2007 beta downloads! The feedback that we’ve received from all these programs has shaped the set of products we’re excited about, and that I’m sure will delight our customers.”
Alongside the announcement, Numoto outlined some official release dates for the productivity suite.

The first to get the new software will be Microsoft’s volume license customers. Software Assurance (SA) subscribers, companies who pay Microsoft a set amount in exchange for the right to use the latest versions of all Microsoft software on their computers, will get the new software on April 27th. Non-SA volume license customers can buy the software starting on May 1st. Home users will get Office last, on an unspecified date in June.

Users who buy or have bought and activated Office 2007 between March 5 and September 30 of this year are eligible for a free upgrade to Office 2010 under the terms of the Office Technology Guarantee program outlined here. For users who would rather wait until June to get their hands on Office, we’ve outlined the pricing structure here.

Microsoft has not officially announced the build number for the RTM version of Office 2010, but rumor says that it’s 14.0.4763.1000. We will, of course, update this information if it is later revealed to be incorrect.
